Broos believes Foster & Rayners could help solve Bafana’s scoring problems

Coach Hugo Broos believes that Lyle Foster and Iqraam Rayners could help to solve Bafana Bafana’s lack of a killer instinct in front of the goal.

The Belgian mentor was speaking during the Bafana final squad announcement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

The 72-year-old coach had initially named 36 players in his preliminary squad, and he trimmed it to 23 players on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Broos’ squad announcement took place at the SABC television studios in Auckland Park. Bafana are expected to face Nigeria away from home in Uyo on Friday, 7 June, and lock horns with Zimbabwe on Tuesday, 11 June 2024, at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

HUGO BROOS ON BAFANA’s LACK OF KILLER INSTINCT

Broos admitted that his side was wasteful in front of the goal, which was one reason they couldn’t qualify for the Qatar FIFA World Cup.

However, the coach believes the duo of Foster and Rayners could come to Bafana’s rescue in the upcoming two games.

“I think that is a problem maybe we don’t have these guys to score goals. We are now looking at two or three years ago and it’s not easy,” said Broos.

“You have it or you don’t have it. I can’t put into someone to score goals, it’s a talent that you have. So, I think now with Rayners with 15 goals, it is not so bad.

“We have Foster now who is used to playing in a high-level competition. He scores every time he gets the chance. So, he can score.

“So, let’s hope those two guys can help us now with the two games because two years ago, we were not going to Qatar because of goal differences.”

Broos continued: “And the goal differences at the moment is not good either as we scored two and conceded three. So, it’s up to us to increase that and hope that Lyle and Iqraam will help us.”

So far, Bafana are placed second in Group C with three points after two games.
