AmaZulu FC midfielder likely to leave upon contract expiry

An AmaZulu FC midfielder looks set to leave the club on a free transfer following the end of his contract at the club, FARPost has learnt.

While there hasn’t been any move so far at the club, Usuthu might part ways with a handful of players whose contracts come to an end in June.

The club’s head coach Pablo Franco Martin said that there are more than ten players that the club should get into talks with regarding their futures.

WHO’S THE MIDFIELDER LINKED WITH EXIT?

According to a source, George Maluleka who’s been struggling for game time, could be on his way out during the June transfer window.

‘Mido’ as he’s well-known, played only 17 matches across all competitions this season.

This was his second season with the Durban-based side as he was signed in June 2022 on a two-year deal with an option to extend for a further year after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, it looks like he’s unlikely to be offered fresh terms nor will the club trigger the additional 12-month option.

Overall, the 35-year-old managed 48 matches and registered six assists in the process.

Meanwhile, another player potentially leaving is Veluyeke Zulu who’s had a frustrating season with the side. He struggled for game time, featuring in five DStv Premiership matches only this season.

Just like Maluleka, the club has the option to trigger a one-year option on his contract, however, he’s said to have indicated his desire to leave.

Zulu has also been with AmaZulu for two years having joined the club in June 2022 from Chippa United.

DECISION MADE ON EKSTEIN? WHAT ABOUT MOTSHWARI’S FUTURE?

Usuthu still have to make a decision on Ben Motshwari who has been with them for one year after signing from Orlando Pirates at the beginning of the season.

He penned a one-year deal and an option to extend for another year. It is uncertain whether AmaZulu will keep him for another campaign.

Moreover, the Sandile Zungu-owned club is reportedly planning to retain the services of Hendrick Ekstein who had an impressive season, featuring in 30 games in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
