Iqraam Rayners makes honest admission on his Stellenbosch FC future

Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, Stellenbosch FC attacker Iqraam Rayners has made an honest admission about his future at the club.

Rayners has been crucial for Stellenbosch after they finished third on the Premiership log standings to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Stellenbosch won 14 games in the league, drawing eight while losing on eight occasions, collecting 50 points in 30 matches.

The goal-poacher also won the inaugural Carling Knockout Cup with Stellenbosch after beating TS Galaxy 5-4 on penalties in December 2023.

Rayners scored 17 goals across all competitions in the just-ended season and provided eight assists in his 39 appearances.

His impressive form earned him a spot in the Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana team that will face Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Rayners was also part of the Bafana squad that played in FIFA series international friendlies against Andorra and Algeria two months ago.

WHAT DID IQRAAM RAYNERS SAY ABOUT HIS FUTURE AT STELLENBOSCH?

The 28-year-old striker says he will entertain offers for his services when he returns from the Bafana Bafana camp.

“I don’t know yet [about interested teams]; I did not make up my mind; I must still think about that. And I can only think about that after the Bafana camp and see what can happen.

“I need to return to Stellenbosch, and whatever comes my way, I’ll be happy, but firstly, I need to focus on my team and speak to the management; if there are offers, maybe they’ll know or won’t know. But if there are teams that want me, I’ll go to them and ask what’s the situation because I still have a contract with Stellenbosch.”

Meanwhile, Rayners moved to Gauteng and played for SuperSport United from 2020 to 2023. He returned to Stellies for the 2022/23 season after struggling for game time at SuperSport.
