Cape Town City confirm five departures

As the club seems to have begun squad adjustments, Cape Town City have confirmed five departures following the conclusion of the season.

The Mother City-based outfit appears set for a busy transfer window, with links to several players emerging. However, the club is yet to officially confirm any new signings.

City have announced the exits of Thabiso Kutumela, Joe Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Bongani Mpandle and Khanya Leshabela.

Kutumela leaves the club following the end of his season-long loan spell. He returns to his parent club Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old played 28 games across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Meanwhile, Joe Paciencia signed for City at the beginning of the 2023/24 season from the Angolan side CD Interclube. The 27-year-old leaves after a 12-month stay having scored only two goals from 24 games.

And Relebogile Mokhuoane has been with the Western Cape-based side since 2021 after signing from the now-defunct Free State Stars. His contract was going to expire at the end of June 2025.

According to the reports he’s heading to Sekhukhune United with the two clubs agreeing on a swap deal involving Kamohelo Mokotjo.

Bongani Mpandle was the number two goalkeeper after Darren Keet for over three seasons that he spent at the club. In this campaign, he only played one match and conceded three goals.

High expectations surrounded Khanya Leshabela, the former Leicester City midfielder, upon his return to South Africa. However, the Soshanguve-born player seemed to struggle to adapt to his home country, managing just nine appearances across all competitions.
