CT Spurs midfielder Michael Morton discusses future
Well-travelled midfielder Michael Morton has addressed his future with Cape Town Spurs following the club’s relegation from the DStv Premiership.
CT Spurs’ relegation back to the lower division has left question marks over the future of their squad, with veteran midfielder Morton being one of the key names in the mix.
The Mother City-based outfit only lasted a season in the DStv Premiership. They were relegated following inconsistency and poor form in the 2023/24 campaign.
Morton has been with CT Spurs for the past two years. He made the switch from now-defunct All Stars FC ahead of the 2022/23 season.
In his first season, the 35-year-old played a big part in helping CT Spurs gain promotion back to the SA top-flight through the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs after six seasons in the Motsep Foundation Championship.
For his hard work, Morton was rewarded with a one-year deal. The club managed to retain some of its senior players, like Nazeer Ali and Clayton Daniels, who later left the club.
MICHAEL MORTON ON HIS FUTURE AT CAPE TOWN SPURS
Like many other players in the PSL, the experienced midfielder’s contract with Urban Warriors expires on June 30, 2024.
Morton says his future at the club will be clear in weeks to come when the two parties start with the negotiations.
“I will throw the challenge to the club, this is not how I want it to end” Morton told FARPost. “Obviously, so we will see how the negotiations go and we will make a decision in the next couple of weeks.”
In the just-ended season, the former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United midfielder featured in 19 matches in all competitions. He played in different positions in the middle of the park: defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, and left midfielder.
He found the back of the net once in their last match of the season. This was in the famous 2-0 victory over Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
