Stellenbosch FC keeper not giving up on Bafana Bafana dream

Although he has not been called to the Bafana Bafana squad in his career, Stellenbosch FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke says it remains his dream to play for the national team.

Masuluke was part of the Stellies side that re-wrote the club’s history in the 2023/24 season.

In the recently concluded season, Stellenbosch won their first-ever trophy, the Carling Knockout Cup. They also finished third in the DStv Premiership, their best finish since their promotion to the elite league.

They have also qualified for the CAF Inter-club competition where they will represent South Africa in the Confederation Cup.

Masuluke, who joined Stellies from Baroka FC at the beginning of the season, also played a key role this season. He featured in 11 matches in all competitions, keeping four clean sheets.

“Obviously, when you are also given an opportunity to play, you grab it with both hands,” Masuluke told FARPost.

“When you are mature enough to play for the national team, why not? It’s everybody’s dream to represent the national team. So it’s also my wish to one day get an opportunity to play because matches are different. But I have to continue to work hard so that I can find myself playing for Bafana Bafana as well.”

STELLENBOSCH FC GOALKEEPER ACKNOWLEDGE GROWTH SINCE JOINING THE CLUB

Masuluke has also reflected on how his move to Stellenbosch has helped him grow as an individual.

“Look, obviously, I am happy with the improvement in my game. When you get an opportunity, you need to grab it and work hard so that things can improve for you,” he said.

“The people I work with work extremely hard. I am talking about my fellow goalkeepers and the goalkeeper, and it’s a good environment. Not that we don’t compete, but we help each other, and that has also helped me a lot.”
