Ex-Pirates coach’s message to Kermit Erasmus after leaving the club

A former Orlando Pirates coach has sent a heartfelt message to striker Kermit Erasmus after parting ways with the Soweto giants.

Pirates continued with their clear-out on Friday as they released Erasmus alongside midfielder Thabang Morane and goalkeepers Siyabonga Mpontshane and Richard Ofori.

Earlier in the week, the Buccaneers parted ways with assistant coach Sergio Almenara on mutual consent before cutting ties with Cameroonian striker Souaibou Marou and midfielder Fortune Makaringe.

Erasmus was in his second stint at the Sea Robbers, having re-joined the club in the 2022/23 season on a two-year deal following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

During his second tenure at the club, the former Bafana Bafana striker only made 36 matches in all competitions. His lack of game time was because of injury setbacks and stiff competition in the Bucs’ strikers department. Pirates have other quality strikers like Tshegofatso Mabasa, Zakhele Lepasa and Evidence Makgopa.

The 33-year-old racked up five goals and provided five assists. In addition, he won four titles with the team: two MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies.

SCOTT CHICKELDAY SENDS A MESSAGE OF SUPPORT TO KERMIT ERASMUS

Former Pirates strikers’ coach Scott Chickelday sent a message of support to Erasmus, wishing the experienced attacker well in his future endeavours.

The two worked together in the 2022/23 campaign before Chickelday decided to end his association with the Happy People and resigned from his post.

“Sad to see @Erasmus_95 depart from @OrlandoPirates. Blessed to have worked with you mate! Top player and person! Looking forward to seeing what comes next for you! Thanks for the memories,” Chickelday posted on his X [Twitter] account.

‘Romeo’ made over 117 appearances in Pirates colours over his two stints, with 26 and 19 assists to his name.

At this point, it’s unclear where the goal poacher will play his football next season. With Erasmus’ experience, he is likely to find a new club before the 2024/25 season starts.
