Morgan Mammila’s first words as Baroka’s interim coach

Morgan Mammila has spoken for the first time as Baroka FC’s interim coach following their 0-0 draw with Richards Bay FC in their PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs at Global Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Mammila reunited with his former club this past Tuesday when Bakgaga decided to suspend their coach Dan Malesela after their 1-0 loss to AmaTuks away from home last weekend, 2 June 2024.

The former Chippa United technical director, Mammila, served as Baroka CEO when the Limpopo club gained promotion to the top-flight during the 2015/16 campaign.

Mammila returns to Baroka a few days after being shown the exit door by the Chilli Boys following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

MORGAN MAMMILA KEEN TO TURN TABLES AROUND

Speaking after their game with the Natal Rich Boyz, Mammila is content he will turn the tables around once he wins on Wednesday and people will change tunes as they believe Baroka doesn’t stand a chance.

“Once I win on Wednesday, we are all going to change the tune and say you have got a chance. But now where we are you would say we don’t have a chance,” said Mammila.

“We still have two games to go just like other teams too. It’s just a three-point difference with Richards Bay and two points with AmaTuks.

“All of them, if you ask them ‘Are you in?’ They will say ‘no’. Nobody is in now. Wednesday will decide who’s in and who’s out.”

MORGAN MAMMILA RECALLS KHURISHI MPHAHLELE’S CALL

Mammila revealed that he couldn’t say ‘no’ to the Baroka chairman who called him asking for help on Tuesday, citing that Baroka is his home and the club made him the person he is today.

“I was at home relaxing, I had just come from wherever I was. But once a brother makes a phone call and says ‘How are you?’ I said ‘I’m fine.’ Remember this is home. This is the team that made me who I am today,” he added.

“I couldn’t say ‘no’ to a brother of mine asking for help. Of course, Baroka is me whether I like it or not, Baroka is me. Morgan without Baroka I’m nothing.

“There weren’t even conversations before, it just happened on Tuesday, ‘Can you help?’, then I came and I’m home. There’s no better place than home.”

As things stand, Baroka are currently placed third on the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs with one point from two outings.
