Sekhukhune United swoops in for out-of-contract Kaizer Chiefs star

Sekhukhune United have moved swiftly to secure the signature of an out-of-contract Kaizer Chiefs star.

Babina Noko finished the season in fourth place and will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup for the second season running.

The club has begun strengthening its squad for the new 2024/25 DStv Premiership season. Relebogile Mokhuoane has already joined them with Kamohelo Mokotjo going the opposite direction.

Interestingly, Sekhukhune are seeking a replacement for Edwin Gyimah, who has not been with the club since November. The Ghanaian was suspended for disciplinary reasons and looks set to be let go. His contract expires at the end of this month, and the club has no intention of renewing it.

Veteran defender Daniel Cardoso has also been linked with an exit from the club, which would necessitate bolstering the defence.

Babina Noko have reportedly agreed on a long-term contract with Njabulo Ngcobo. This deal presents a significant opportunity for the Amakhosi defender to re-establish himself as a prominent figure in South African football.

Ngcobo, the once-celebrated defender who joined Chiefs as the reigning Defender of the Season in 2021, is on the verge of ending his tenure with the Naturena giants.

Ngcobo’s contract with Chiefs expires at the end of June, and he is due for talks with the club over his future. However, sources reveal that the player has already agreed to terms with Sekhukhune United.

The 29-year-old Ngcobo has struggled for game time this season, starting only eight matches in all competitions for Amakhosi.

The move to Sekhukhune United is seen as a chance for the defender to revitalise his career and secure consistent playing time.

Ngcobo’s impending departure from Chiefs marks the end of a chapter filled with promise but ultimately limited by a lack of opportunities.

Despite arriving at Naturena with high expectations, the defender’s time with the club has been characterised by infrequent appearances and a subsequent decline in form.
