Pitso Mosimane offers Kaizer Chiefs blueprint for turnaround

South Africa’s most decorated football coach, Pitso Mosimane, has offered Kaizer Chiefs a blueprint for a turnaround as they seek to end a decade-long drought.

Mosimane, a frequent name linked to the role, acknowledged the widespread interest. However, reports indicate the club is not actively pursuing Mosimane.

Fresh from his stint at Saudi Arabian Pro League side Abha FC, the three-time CAF Champions League winner offered advice for Chiefs, a club that has struggled in recent years. He emphasised the importance of returning to the CAF Champions League and establishing a strong presence there.

“Everywhere I go, everybody would ask me. But I’m a professional. I will not use that to put Kaizer Chiefs under stress over these things. It is not fair, because we don’t know what is happening, what are they thinking and what is their vision,” said Mosimane.

Despite his personal connection to Chiefs, the six-time PSL league title winner maintains a respectful distance. “Let’s give them a chance,” he urged, adding, “They will show you the plan; I mean, they are working on it – they are a big club.”

Drawing from his recent experience in Saudi Arabia, Mosimane highlighted the importance of a long-term vision for Chiefs, advocating for a strategic focus on continental success.

“It’s not about the league only here. It’s not about winning the Champions League only. Step by step, show confidence and go into the group stages of the Confederation Cup. You have to be somewhere to move. But it needs a plan. It needs time.”

Mosimane’s vision extends beyond domestic achievements, emphasising the financial rewards and global recognition of participating in prestigious tournaments like the FIFA Club World Cup. “What’s the vision – you want to go to the Club World Cup and touch that R1 billion? It’s a process,” he remarked.

Citing Arsenal’s journey back to the UEFA Champions League, Mosimane emphasised the need for a strategic plan and patience in achieving long-term goals. His insights offer valuable guidance for Chiefs as they strive to end their trophy drought and reclaim their position as a dominant force in African football.

Mosimane’s son plays for Amakhosi’s juniors, a testament to his good relationship with the club. “We have a good relationship with them. We talk anytime—we speak on the phone,” he confirmed. “If there was bad blood, he would not be there, am I right? So, there’s no problem.”
