Chippa United eye Kaizer Chiefs player amid goalkeeper exodus

DStv Premiership side Chippa United are facing a potential goalkeeping exodus as the transfer window gets into full swing.

Chippa had two goalkeepers at the AFCON at the beginning of the year.

Stanley Nwabali represented Nigeria, attracting interest with his fine performances. On the other hand, Lloyd Kazapua represented Namibia at the continental showpiece.

Both Stanley Nwabali and Lloyd Kazapua are both linked with exits from the club. Nwabali has attracted interest from both domestic and international teams, while Kazapua is on the radar of Sekhukhune United.

Among other clubs, Nwabali – Super Eagles’ number one goalie – was offered to Kaizer Chiefs. On the other hand, the Brave Warriors goalie only made five appearances in all competitions last season. He went on to start all four matches that Nambia played at the AFCON.

HOW CHIPPA UNITED ARE ADDRESSING LOOMING GOALKEEPING EXODUS

To address this looming exodus, Chippa United have set their sights on Amakhosi’s second-choice goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen.

The Chilli Boys reportedly made an initial offer to exchange Nwabali, another player, and cash for Petersen, but the proposal was rejected by Chiefs.

Petersen has endured a difficult season at Chiefs, marred by errors that led to him losing his starting position. He lost his starting place to Bruce Bvuma midway through the season.

However, despite his recent struggles, the Chilli Boys see potential in the 29-year-old shot-stopper. They believe a change of scenery could reignite his career and provide them with a reliable presence between the posts.

Chiefs recently extended Petersen’s contract for another two years, with an option for an additional year, indicating their continued faith in his abilities.

However, with limited playing time in prospect at Chiefs, a move to Chippa United could offer Petersen the opportunity for regular first-team football. The Chilli Boys also have Darren Johnson in that department.
