Sekhukhune United’s major squad overhaul begins with striker’s exit

A Sekhukhune United striker is headed for the exit door amidst a looming squad shakeup at the DStv Premiership outfit.

Sekhukhune are set to undergo a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2024/25 season. Babina Noko finished the season in fourth place and are set to play in the CAF Confederation Cup for the second season running.

A number of names are linked with exits from the club. Kamohelo Mokotjo, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Edwin Gyimah and Larry Bwalya are all reported to be leaving Sekhukhune United this summer.

The club will likely be looking to rebuild their squad ahead of the new season after a disappointing campaign.

Mokotjo leaves the club in a deal that will see Relebogile Mokhuoane go the opposite direction. Out-of-contract Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo is also linked with a move to the club. Ngcobo has been waiting to hear about his future at Amakhosi and has reportedly decided to move on.

WHICH SEKHUKHUNE UNITED STRIKER IS HEADED FOR THE EXIT?

Ghanaian forward Michael Sarpong is set to leave the club at the end of the month. Sarpong, who joined on a one-year deal last season, will not have his contract renewed after a season hampered by visa issues.

Despite the club having the option to extend his stay, Sarpong’s limited impact on the pitch, with only four starts and one assist, has led to the decision to part ways. The former Young Africans striker’s departure is expected to be the first of several exits from the club.

Sarpong’s departure marks another setback for the Ghanaian, who has struggled to find consistent form since leaving Young Africans. It remains to be seen where his next destination will be. But he will be hoping for a fresh start and a chance to revitalise his career.
