Swallows defender on radar of two DStv Prem sides amid franchise sale
With Moroka Swallows’ franchise up for grabs, a player exodus looms, with one of their stars being targeted by two DStv Premiership rivals.
After the 2023/24 season, the Dube Birds are utilising the off-season period to find a suitable buyer for their franchise – PSL status.
As it stands, several clubs have been reported to be interested in buying the Soweto side’s DStv Premiership status.
Throughout last season, the club has been ailing due to financial difficulties. They once hogged the limelight after players protested over unpaid salaries. But despite the turmoil, they managed to preserve their elite league status, with interim coach Musa Nyatama stirring the ship to a 14th-place finish, two points above the drop zone.
TWO DStv PREMIERSHIP RIVALS CLUBS IN SIBIYA’S SERVICES
As they grapple with selling their franchise, it has emerged their defender, Vusi Sibiya, is being targeted by other PSL clubs.
FARPost understands that Sibiya is being targeted by two rival DStv Premiership clubs. A return to his former club, Stellenbosch FC, has been deemed possible, with Sekhukhune United said to be interested
The 29-year-old defender joined Moroka Swallows in August 2023 after being offloaded by Stellenbosch FC. Last season, he played 19 matches, 17 of which were in the DStv Premiership, with no goals to his name.
Sibiya is one of the few players retained by Swallows following what the club described as an ‘illegal strike’ in December. As a result, they failed to fulfil two DStv Premiership fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December.
And they were charged by the Premier Soccer League for bringing the league into disrepute. They were slapped with a R1 million fine, of which R600,000 was suspended for 24 months. Moreso, six points were forfeited.
The majority of the squad demanded early payment before Christmas and boycotted a fixture when there was a delay.
