Clear-out at Sekhukhune United: 7 exits confirmed
Sekhukhune United has released seven senior players whose contracts are expiring at the end of June.
After a fourth-place finish and CAF Confederation Cup qualification, Babina Noko is refreshing its squad ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.
The club has conducted a thorough squad assessment to determine the players they wish to retain for the upcoming season.
They have decided not to renew the contracts of seven players whose deals expire at the end of June. Three players informed of their contract non-renewals have confirmed the news to FARPost. They received letters notifying them of the club’s decision.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED CLEAR-OUT: WHICH 7 PLAYERS ARE OFFICIALLY DEPARTING?
As this publication previously reported, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Michael Sarpong, and Edwin Gyimah are on their way out.
Sibusiso Vilakazi, Lebohang Mabotja, Collins Makgaka, and Tashreeq Morris received notices this week from Babina Noko informing them their contracts will not be renewed.
Makgaka, who joined Sekhukhune from Orlando Pirates at the start of the season, only got 55 minutes of action across three games. Mabotja, another pre-season signing, started 13 matches in all competitions.
This is part of a broader squad review in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, which is also expected to include the announcement of a new coach in the coming days.
Lehlohonolo Seema, suspended in the final week of the previous season due to an alleged disagreement with management, looks set to be replaced. Sekhukhune is actively considering several candidates for the coaching position.
Babina Noko have been linked with various players in the transfer market. However, the club has not yet made any official signings.
Ntiya-Ntiya joined Sekhukhune United from Kaizer Chiefs two seasons ago, while Gyimah arrived a year earlier from Black Leopards. Vilakazi joined on a free transfer from TS Galaxy just before the 2023/24 season began. Under coach Seema, all three players struggled to secure regular playing time.
