Thabang Sibanyoni: ‘I won’t say I’m disappointed, but…’
AmaTuks forward Thabang Sibanyoni has opened up on one of his targets that he couldn’t reach in the just-ended Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
The 28-year-old frontman has been on a season-long loan at the University of Pretoria from Mamelodi Sundowns since the beginning of the 2023/24 term.
Sibanyoni performed well for the Tlisane Motaung-coached team, helping Tuks qualify for the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs despite missing out on automatic promotion to Magesi FC.
The Motsepe Foundation outfit is currently in second place in the mini PSL playoffs table with four points after three games. Tuks will play their final game of the playoffs against Richards Bay FC at home on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The game will kick off at 15:00.
WHAT’S THE TARGET THABANG SIBANYONI COULDN’T REACH?
In a previous interview with this publication in March 2024, Sibanyoni had set himself a target of 14 goals, which he couldn’t reach.
Sibanyoni only managed to score eight goals in 30 league games. He further stated that he is not “disappointed” for not reaching that target.
“Well, I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed or performed badly,” said Sibanyoni in an interview with FARPost.
“But even though I didn’t reach that goal [of scoring 14 goals], as a striker, I have that belief that next season I will reach it.
“I won’t give up. I’m still standing tall, and I will make sure I get 14 goals next season.”
THABANG SIBANYONI ON COMING BACK TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
The talented goal-scorer revealed to this website that he’s still undecided whether he would like to stay at Tuks for another season or go back to his parent club, Sundowns.
“That one I cannot really answer it for now. I have to wait and see what happens,” he added.
“I wouldn’t say I want to stay here with AmaTuks or I want to go back to Mamelodi Sundowns. You know, some situations just happen and take care of itself. As for me, I’m still undecided.”
