Agent gives major update on Augustine Mahlonoko’s future

Craig Cynkin, the representative of Moroka Swallows midfielder Augustine Mahlonoko, has provided a major update regarding the player’s future.

Mahlonoko signed a short-term agreement with the Dube Birds in the middle of the last season after parting ways with NB La Masia in November last year.

His contract was set to expire at the end of June, and Swallows had the choice to extend it for two additional years, with each year being an option.

Despite the ongoing talks about the sale of the club’s status, the Dube Birds have exercised the one-year option on Mahlonoko’s contract, the player’s agent Cynkin of Calcyn Sports Management confirmed.

WHAT’S LATEST ON LEHLOHONOLO MAHLONOKO?

“They have exercised the option for this [upcoming] season,” Cynkin told FARPost.

“They had two options, this season [2024/25 season] and the next [2025/26 season].”

Mahlonoko emerged as a key player for Swallows in the crucial second-round relegation battle, scoring two goals in 11 DStv Premiership appearances.

He also contributed during the Nedbank Cup, featuring in two of their three matches.

With the club’s future uncertain due to a potential sale, some Swallows players are reportedly seeking security elsewhere, holding talks with other top-flight clubs.

As previously reported, veteran Vusi Sibiya has attracted interest from his former club Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune United, who are revamping their squad.

WHAT WILL THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE REST OF SWALLOWS PLAYERS WHEN THE CLUB’S SOLD?

The big question remains: what happens to the rest of the Swallows squad after the sale? FARPost understands that the new owner would only retain a select group of players.

Marumo Gallants owner Sello Abram in the Motsepe Foundation Championship remains the favourite for the status.

As previously reported, Lawrence Mulaudzi also held talks with the club as he looks to return to owning a top-flight club. Cape Town Spurs were also said to have put an enquiry.
