Another Kaizer Chiefs, Yanga SC date on the cards

Kaizer Chiefs will once again face their Tanzanian counterparts, Young Africans, this time on South African soil.

After being hosted by Yanga SC in Tanzania last pre-season, Chiefs will now play host to the Tanzanian champions in July.

Young Africans, the Tanzanian champions, have recently added to their impressive record.

They clinched their third successive league title – the 30th in their history and were also crowned FA Cup champions after a thrilling victory over Azam FC in the final, showcasing their dominance in the Tanzanian football scene.

Last July, Chiefs participated in Yanga’s Wananchi Day celebrations, followed by a pre-season match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where the hosts, Yanga, secured a 1-0 victory.

This game was one of two pre-season matches for the Glamour Boys, the other being a 1-0 loss to Botswana’s Township Rollers, foreshadowing a challenging 2023-24 season.

The two will meet in the Toyota Cup, powered by the multinational automotive manufacturer that sponsors the Chiefs.

According to information gathered by FARPost, the match is scheduled for the last weekend of July at a venue yet to be confirmed.

WHAT YANGA BOSS HERSI ALLY SAID SAID ABOUT THE CHIEFS, YANGA DATE

“We will have a good pre-season, and we have already received invitations from a number of places, including South Africa. Kaizer Chiefs have invited us,” Yanga president Hersi Said revealed during the club’s Annual General Meeting in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

The match will serve as a platform for both teams to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the demanding season and present an opportunity for the eager Amakhosi faithful to see their new coach guide the team.

The match comes at a pivotal moment for Chiefs, who are on the verge of appointing a new head coach and are actively pursuing reinforcements in key positions.

The club endured a disappointing 2023/24 campaign, missing out on a Top 8 finish for the first time in recent history. However, Amakhosi will be eager to rebound under new leadership.

The nine-year trophy drought continues to weigh heavily on Amakhosi’s shoulders, and the Toyota Cup offers a glimpse of hope for a resurgence. The Soweto giants begin their pre-season training next week on Thursday.
