Newly promoted Magesi FC chasing discarded Sekhukhune United defender

Newly promoted Magesi FC are chasing the signature of a discarded Sekhukhune United defender for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

Dikwena gained automatic promotion to the SA elite league after clinching the Motsepe Foundation Championship title last season.

Magesi won 16 league matches, drew nine and lost five times. They collected 57 matches in the 30 games in the NFD.

The Clinton Larsen-coached team follows another Limpopo club, Polokwane City FC, who were promoted in the 2022/23 campaign. Magesi are expected to beef up their squad to compete in the DStv Premiership for the upcoming season.

WHO IS THE SEKHUKHUNE UNITED PLAYER ON THE WISHLIST OF MAGESI FC?

With the transfer window opening next month, Magesi have shown interest in signing Lebogang Mobotja who will leave Sekhukhune United at the end of June.

FARPost reported that Mabotja, alongside Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Micheal Sarpong, Edwin Gymah, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Collins Makgaka, and Tashreeq Morris will leave Babina Noko when their contracts expire on the 30th of June 2024.

Mabotja spent one season at Sekhukhune after joining from Marumo Gallants in July 2023. The left-back made 17 appearances across all competitions last season.

“Magesi are looking to sign Lebogang Mabotja for next season to strengthen their left-back position,” a source privy to the information said.

“The coach of Magesi, Clinton Larsen is a big fan of Mabotja and he’s serious about signing him because he’s a quality player.

“You must also remember that Mabotja comes with a CAF Confederation Cup experienced with Marumo Gallants before they got relegated.

“So he’s a player who can come in and help the young players in the Magesi squad. You can expect the deal to happen in the coming weeks if they agree on all principles.”
