How Mothobi Mvala has dealt with recent criticism
Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender Mothobi Mvala has opened up about the recent wave of criticism aimed at his performances.
Some Sundowns fans have been critical of Mvala following his error against Cape Town City FC in the last match of the 2023/24 season in the DStv Premiership.
Sundowns looked set to create history by becoming the first team ever in the PSL to finish the season without a loss.
However, Mvala had other ideas as the Bafana Bafana defender lost possession to Jaedin Rhodes, who capitalised and scored the goal that also ended Sundowns’ 53-game unbeaten run in the PSL.

“It’s just unfortunate that we do our work and people are watching. But I just have to be strong for as long as you have your family on your side. They help me to recover quickly and I think that’s what helps me. But I don’t put it on my head.
“I am also not on social media, and I don’t see all those things that people are saying. Although I know that there are things that people are saying. But I don’t see them,” he added.
“I am always improving every season, trying to do better than the previous season. Although there will be mistakes here and there. But I try to rectify and be a better player.”
Mvala has been a regular contributor at Bafana Bafana under coach Hugo Broos. He played in all six matches until Nigeria eliminated them in the semi-finals of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
