Richards Bay FC cut ties with defender after one-season stint

Richards Bay FC have cut ties with a defender following a one-season spell together, FARPost has learnt.

This marks the first exit for the “Natal Rich Boyz” despite still competing in the DStv Premiership Promotional Playoffs.

Richards Bay are favourites to win the mini-league as they only need a draw or win in the last match that they will play on Wednesday, 19 June at King Zwelithini Stadium at 3 pm.

TANZANIAN DEFENDER PART WAYS WITH RICHARDS BAY FC

Despite having not finished their season yet, they have parted ways with the defender Abdi Banda.

The Tanzanian centre-back didn’t take part in the Playoffs with the club having played three matches so far.

Banda joined Richards Bay at the beginning of this campaign after his one-year stint with Chippa United. He only made eight appearances across all competitions.

FOUR PLAYERS WERE RELEASED IN MARCH, SANELE BARNS TO STELLIES

Midfielder Sanele Barns will also be departing Richards Bay after the Playoffs, having signed with Stellenbosch FC ahead of the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, in March FARPost first reported that the Zululand-based outfit released four players – Lucky Mohomi, Mpho Mathebula, Sakhile Hlongwa and Sinethemba Mngomezulu.

Midway through the season, the players stopped training with the club and subsequently didn’t feature in all second-round fixtures.

Mohomi had signed for Richards Bay in July last year after leaving Marumo Gallants who suffered relegation to the second-tier.

Just like Mohomi, Mngomezulu also signed for Richards Bay from Stellenbosch FC in July last year and last played for Bay in December.

Meanwhile, Mathebula had joined the club in 2021 after a stint with SuperSport United. He only played two matches this season and was, thereafter, out due to injury.

And Hlongwa had been with the club for four years having signed in 2020 after his Royal AM exit.
