The dream Tshepo Motsoeneng wishes to fulfill before he retires

Tshepo Motsoeneng, who is making his sixth appearance at the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, has revealed the dream he wishes to fulfil before he retires.

Motsoeneng is the only coach with six appearances in the SA football third-tier national playoffs. He is guiding Njampela FC from KwaZulu-Natal in the playoffs to secure promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

This move wouldn’t be unfamiliar territory for the former SuperSport United goalkeeper, who previously played a pivotal role in helping Bizana Pondo Chiefs secure promotion to the National First Division in 2020.

He has previously coached Tornado FC, Buffalo City Municipal [BCM], Zizwe United, and Sinenkani FC at the playoffs.

This year’s edition is being held in the Northern Cape, Upington at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium from 18-23 June 2024.

THE ONE DREAM TSHEPO MOTSOENENG WISHES TO FULFIL

In an interview with FARPost, the 45-year-old mentor revealed that he would like to coach in the PSL. And his target is to do so before the age of 55.

“[My attitude is] let me go and work as if it’s my last because anything can change at any point… Maybe one day I’ll be able to realise my dream of going back to PSL where I worked before as a player to coach there,” Motsoeneng told FARPost.

“I’m not looking to stay long in football. If God grants me the opportunity, I’ll always say that at the age of 55, if and when I get there I really want to call it a day because it has taken out of my body and brain a lot. You work under a lot of stress and pressure most times.

“At some point, I need to give it to my kids to say this is your last year with your dad being a moody person as we need to celebrate at times. So, I need to work quicker and get out.

“When you are a footballer, you play football throughout your career. After football, most of us are forced to go back to our mom’s house or back rooms and stuff.”

‘WHEN I LEFT THE FIELD OF PLAY I KNEW I HAD SOMETHING TO GET BACK TO’

Motsoeneng continued: “When football chooses you and finds you where you are, you’ll always try to work hard and get better. When I left the field of play I knew I had something to get back to. I started following this thing [coaching], as I started as a goalkeeper coach.

“I then improved myself to become a head coach, and I never looked back since then. Since football has an income I can feed my family and do certain things in life right that I may have left behind when I was still playing football.

“I’m focused on that to say, at the end of the day it is better to work and people will relocate wherever you are. We all know that football can change your life 10 times more than the 9-5 jobs sometimes.”
