Why Mark Williams offered his services to Kaizer Chiefs

Former Bafana Bafana striker Mark Williams has revealed how he recently offered his services to Kaizer Chiefs to help turn the club’s fortunes around.

Williams played for Chiefs upon his return from Brazilian club Corinthians in 1996 until 1997.

The 1996 Bafana Bafana hero has, in recent times, raised his concerns with how the club has performed as they have now gone nine seasons without winning a single trophy.

And the recently concluded 2023/24 campaign meant that it was the first time that Chiefs scored less than 30 goals in the DStv Premiership since the 2017/18 season.

FORMER BAFANA BAFANA STRIKER REVEALS HOW HE OFFERED HIS SERVICES TO KAIZER CHIEFS

The 57-year-old has told FARPost how he approached the club to help in the striking department.

“Chiefs are not scoring goals, but they are playing good football. I went there, and I said, ‘let me be a striker coach’,” he said.

“I am waiting. I am waiting in the door; I am not giving up. All I want to do is to help the strikers. So if I can help the strikers score week in and week out, that means 85 per cent of South African fans will be happy because they will score goals and win. Football is about scoring goals and winning.

“I have been there at the office. It’s not like I have not been there. For me, I just wanted to make sure that I give back all the knowledge. You can’t tell me that a guy who has played in so many countries, not just locally, [can’t help],” added.

MARK WILLIAMS WANTS TO SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES WITH THE AMAKHOSI STRIKERS

“I have scored goals like it’s running out of fashion, locally and internationally. So, there must be something that God has given me. So, all I want to do is to share it.

“There are other clubs that want me. Maybe I must go and knock at the clubs that want me because sometimes certain teams think they are doing you a favour. For me, it doesn’t work like that.”
