Major update on Siyanda Xulu’s future at SuperSport United
SuperSport United defender Siyanda Xulu recently completed his first 12 months of a two-year contract he signed at the club in July last year, here is a major update on his future.
Off-season squad adjustments appear underway at many clubs following the 2023/24 season’s conclusion.
It was a disappointing season for Matsatsantsa, who finished 7th in the DStv Premiership with only 44 points from a possible 90.
While they secured a top-eight spot, they fell short of their ultimate goal – qualification for the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.
This lack of continental competition may influence player movement as they perhaps won’t require a large squad. As previously reported, the club could bid farewell to Abdulrazack Mohamed Hamza after end of contract and Jesse Donn who’s wanted by AmaZulu FC.
BAFANA BAFANA VETERAN DEFENDER PART WAYS WITH SUPERSPORT UNITED
FARPost can confirm that Bafana Bafana vice-captain Siyanda Xulu has amicably parted ways with SuperSport.
The 32-year-old still had a year remaining in his contract with the Spartans having inked a two-year deal with the club at the beginning of the season.
However, the two parties reached the agreement to go their separate ways following discussions in the past few weeks.
This website understands that Xulu, who hails from KwaMashu, seeks regular playing time elsewhere with the aim of returning to the Bafana Bafana squad.
Xulu only had much playing time in the first round of the season and went on to represent South Africa at AFCON. However, thereafter, he saw limited action in the second round.
Overall, he made 16 appearances across all competitions including the CAF Confederation Cup.
INTEREST IN RUSSIA & ARAB GULF
As previously reported back in February, clubs in the Middle East including in Morocco were already interested in Xulu even prior to his arrival at SuperSport United.
Further, he has been on the radar of a Russian club, a country where he played between 2012 and 2015.
