SuperSport United edge ahead in Salim Magoola chase, but…
Richards Bay FC goalkeeper Salim Magoola is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war as three DStv Premiership chase his signature.
SuperSport United have edged ahead in the transfer chase for the Ugandan international, who is out of contract at the end of June.
SuperSport United are eager to secure Magoola’s services as a replacement for Ricardo Goss, who is returning to Mamelodi Sundowns after a two-year loan spell. Goss moved to Matsatsantsa as part of the deal that saw Ronwen Williams move to Sundowns.
FARPost has previously reported that SuperSport United‘s attempts to retain Bafana Bafana’s number two goalkeeper, Goss, for another season have been unsuccessful. Sundowns have summoned the 30-year-old back to their Chloorkop headquarters, forcing the Gavin Hunt-coached side to embark on a search for a new shot-stopper.
In the just-ended season, Goss featured in 33 games, conceding 38 goals and keeping nine clean sheets. In contrast, Washington Arubi only featured in 11 matches across all competitions, solidifying Goss’s position as SuperSport United’s primary goalkeeper throughout the last season.
Sources close to this publication reveal that SuperSport United and Salim Magoola’s representatives are currently negotiating personal terms. While an initial offer was rejected, a positive resolution appears imminent in the coming days.
WHICH OTHER TWO CLUBS ARE CHASING SALIM MAGOOLA?
However, the situation remains fluid as Magoola has two other serious suitors vying for his services. Their interest could significantly influence the outcome of this transfer saga.
AmaZulu and Chippa United are also vying for his signature. Chippa United have also entered the race for Magoola. The Eastern Cape side face the departure of both their goalkeepers, Stanley Nwabali and Lloyd Kazapua.
Kazapua, the Namibia international, is linked with a move to Sekhukhune United. Stanley Nwabali is attracting interest from overseas clubs following his impressive performances at the AFCON. With several clubs vying for his signature, Magoola is in a strong position to choose the club that best suits his ambitions.
