Jomo Sono confirms European club beat Magesi to signature of Cosmos star
Jomo Cosmos chairman/coach Jomo Sono has confirmed that a European club has secured the services of a promising young talent from the club, beating out DStv Premiership newbies Magesi FC.
The newly promoted Magesi are on a hunt for quality players to compete in the DStv Premiership following their promotion to the SA elite league from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The Limpopo-based side won the second-tier league title with two matches spare in the 2023/24 campaign. Magesi won 16 matches in the NFD, drew nine and lost only five times. They collected 57 points in 30 matches.
A few days ago, this publication reported that Magesi have set their sights on the outgoing Sekhukhune United defender Lebogang Mabotja and Sibusiso Mabiliso, who has been a free agent since parting ways with AmaZulu FC.
Magesi have also earmarked a Jomo Cosmos left-back, Vuyo Letlapa, as a possible signing for the 2024/25 season. However, SA football great and Cosmos owner Jomo Sono said that the highly-rated defender will be moving to a team in Europe.

The Orlando Pirates legend said while the deal is in the final stages he can’t reveal the name of the overseas club until they make an announcement from their side.
“Vuyo Letlapa will be be joining a European team and not Magesi FC. Obviously, I can’t say which team is it now because we have seen deals like these being ruined because they are all over the news. So once everything is final and the move is complete, I can definitely tell you all the details about the move,” Sono told FARPost.
Letlapa was one of the outstanding performers for Ezenkosi as they finished fourth in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League to miss out on the National Playoffs that are currently underway in Upington, Northern Cape.
The 20-year-old full-back featured in 32 matches in the ABC Motsepe League, scoring four goals and provided 13 assists.
