SuperSport United set to offload two more players

In the midst of the club’s squad revamp, SuperSport United are set to offload two more players, FARPost has learnt.

SuperSport endured an underwhelming 2023/24 campaign somewhat last season, falling short of their goal to qualify for continental competitions and ultimately finishing a lowly seventh.

The club appears to be embarking on a fresh start, aiming to climb the ladder and re-establish itself as a force to be reckoned with in South African football.

The Spartans have witnessed a sharp decline over the past few campaigns, mainly attributed to the club selling its key players. They last won the trophy in the 2019/20 season under Kaitano Tembo, where they lifted the MTN8 trophy after defeating Highlands Park in the final.

Gavin Hunt reunited with SuperSport in 2022 following Tembo’s sacking. It’s his second stint with the club, having had a successful spell with them between 2007 and 2013. He seems to be rebuilding his team with the aim of replicating that past success.

FARPost sources suggest that Ronald Pfumbidzai might not continue at SuperSport next season despite having one year remaining on his contract. Meanwhile, the club is looking to get Phathutshedzo Nange a club with the midfielder having struggled for game time last season.

Pfumbidzai joined Matsatsantsa on a free transfer in July last year after leaving Chippa United at the end of the contract. The Zimbabwean defender only made 10 appearances in the DStv Premiership.

Overall, he amassed 16 appearances across all competitions. Hunt has Onismor Bhasera, Lyle Lakay and Neo Rapoo in the left-back position.

On the other hand, Nange also penned a deal with United on a free transfer at the beginning of the season after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs. The midfielder couldn’t live up to expectations, making nine starts in 17 appearances he accumulated in all competitions.

SuperSport United have also parted ways with defender Siyanda Xulu, as first reported by FARPost. Similar to Nange and Pfumbidzai, Xulu had a year remaining on his contract, but both parties reached an agreement for a mutual termination.

Additionally, midfielder Jesse Donn might be the next to depart. AmaZulu FC have shown interest, and he has struggled for regular playing time at United. Abdulrazack Mohamed Hamza also seems to be on his way out, with his contract expiring this month.
