How Mvala’s game has evolved under Rulani Mokwena
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala has shared some insight on how his game evolved under coach Rulani Mokwena.
Mvala is in his fourth season at the DStv Premiership champions, Sundowns, since joining from now-defunct Highlands Park.
Having joined as a defensive midfielder, the 30-year-old has also been converted into a centre-back. And Mvala’s performances as a defender have also seen him cement a regular place at Bafana Bafana under coach Hugo Broos.
“I think I have improved a lot since I joined Sundowns and working with coach Rulani,” Mvala told FARPost.
HOW COACH RULANI MOKWENA HAS HELPED THE BAFANA BAFANA DEFENDER TO IMPROVE
“He is someone that pays a lot of attention to detail. Everything starts at training, if you are not doing something right, he is someone who doesn’t shy away from calling you to rectify.
“He gives me confidence as well as a player to work hard and give advice on training sessions. Watch your games and do corrections, if you have a problem you can call. All those things help as a player to improve,” he said.
WHY MOTHOBI MVALA’S GAME IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL AT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
“Those are the things that I learned since I joined Sundowns. I would say when I started working under coach Rulani. You watch your games, you see the mistakes that you made, and they help you to improve.
“Especially in terms of playing. So it has really helped me to improve, not only me but everyone at Sundowns. You can see that their game is on another level.”
Mvala featured in 17 games in the DStv Premiership last season. He also featured in both the CAF Champions League and the African Football League. He also played in all the matches for Bafana Bafana during the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
