Mass exodus at Chippa United: 16 players released
In a major squad shakeup, DStv Premiership side Chippa United have parted ways with 16 first-team players ahead of the 2024/25 season.
This mass exodus leaves the Eastern Cape club with significant rebuilding to do for the upcoming season. The Chilli Boys are looking to improve on their inconsistent performances last season after finishing 12th on the league table.
Chippa United won only eight league matches, drew 10, and lost 12. They collected 34 points in 30 matches.
After the season ended, Chippa United fired its technical director, Morgan Mammila, who has since joined second-tier league outfit Baroka FC as an interim coach.
Mammila took over the coaching role from Dan Malesela, who was placed on a ‘special leave’ in the middle of the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.
Despite reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 Nedbank Cup, Chippa United have decided to part company with 16 players.
The Gqeberha-based outfit confirmed the news on their social media platforms on Thursday and also revealed that Goodman Mosele and Gadinkame Modise will return the their parent clubs.
Mosele was on a season-long loan from Orlando Pirates, while Modise joined the club from Mamelodi Sundowns.
