Sekhukhune United lands star striker Andy Boyeli
Andy Boyeli, the Congolese striker who dominated the Zambian Super League as its top scorer, has joined DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United.
Babina Noko recently released Ghanaian forward Michael Sarpong after a season with them. The former Young Africans marksman struggled to settle in the DStv Premiership with visa issues delaying his transfer.
He had signed a one-year contract, and the club decided against renewing it once it expired. The 28-year-old made only four starts and provided one assist.
He left the club along with Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Edwin Gyimah, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Lebohang Mabotja, Collins Makgaka and Tashreeq Morris.
The club has already started bolstering its squad for the 2024/25 season. Due to their fourth-place finish in the previous season, they qualified to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Njabulo Ngcobo joins the team from Kaizer Chiefs, where his contract expires at the end of June. Boyeli is set to touch down in South Africa early next week, having agreed to a three-year contract [plus two].
His impressive goal-scoring record for Power Dynamos has attracted interest from several clubs, including Cape Town City FC.
AGENCY CONFIRMS ANDY BOYELI’S MOVE TO SEKHUKHUNE UNITED
P Management Sports on Thursday confirmed the 23-year-old striker had signed for Sekhukhune.
“After much speculation, we are pleased to announce that Andy Bobwa Boyeli is a Sekhukhune United player. We would like to thank Power Dynamos for their professionalism during the transfer process,” the agency that manages Boyeli posted on X.
Sekhukhune United is keen to bolster its attacking options for the upcoming season and sees Boyeli as the ideal addition to its squad. The club has reportedly agreed to pay a transfer fee to secure his services.
Boyeli’s arrival will intensify competition for the striker position, as he is expected to challenge Nigerian striker Chibuike Ohizu for a spot in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, the club is reportedly close to finalising agreements for a new head coach this week.
