Aubrey Modiba reflects on fourth league title, reveals next ambition

Mamelodi Sundowns versatile player Aubrey Modiba has reflected on winning the league title every season since joining the club from SuperSport United. The Bafana Bafana international joined Masandawana in 2020 on a five-year deal.

He has since gone on to win the League four times, the Nedbank Cup, the MTN8 as well as the African Football League. But Modiba says he now wants to be part of the Sundowns side that wins their second star.

“So obviously that’s what I wanted for myself. Even though we fell short this season with the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup we can always be proud of ourselves. Hopefully next season we will come back bigger and better.

“Everyone at Sundowns wants to win the Champions League. We want the second star to make history for ourselves as players to be remembered. So I think the Champions League is something that we also fell short again in the semi-finals,” he said

“But we can always be proud of ourselves. I think this is our second semi-final in a row. So hopefully next season we play all the finals. We want to participate in all the finals and hopefully win them. But the Champions League is something that we really want to win.”

Sundowns have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League semi-finals for two consecutive seasons. They have only won the competition back in 2016.
