Door opens for Morena Ramoreboli’s next move as Galaxy talks stall

Jwaneng Galaxy head coach Morena Ramoreboli’s future with the Botswana club has been thrown into uncertainty, potentially paving way for his next move.

This comes after he left the diamond-rich nation without concluding contract talks on Friday. With just nine days remaining on his contract, the celebrated coach and the Botswana Premier League champions have yet to agree on a new deal.

Ramoreboli’s contract with the mining company expires on June 30, 2024. FARPost has since learned that there is no agreement on a new deal.

The uncertainty paves the way for the South African tactician’s potential move to DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United. Ramoreboli’s tenure in Jwaneng – located in the Southern District of Botswana – has been nothing short of remarkable.

He has won back-to-back league titles, an Orange FA Cup victory, and two consecutive CAF Champions League group stage appearances. His achievements have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from several clubs across the continent.

Galaxy’s public relations officer, Tankiso Morake, said the club is in ongoing negotiations with the Free State-born mentor.

“The coach’s contract is coming to an end, and the management is still engaging with him to see how best we can retain his services,” Morake told FARPost. He further revealed that Ramoreboli has expressed interest in staying with the club, but the final decision will depend on the outcome of the negotiations.

The Ugandan giants Vipers SC were reportedly in the race for Ramoreboli’s signature but have since appointed former Township Rollers coach Nikola Kavazović. This leaves Sekhukhune United as the frontrunners for his services.

WHY SEKHUKHUNE UNITED COULD BE MORENA RAMOREBOLI’S NEXT MOVE

Sekhukhune United, in particular, seems the most likely destination as they seek a replacement for Lehlohonolo Seema. Ramoreboli’s track record of success and experience in African club competitions would make him an ideal candidate to lead the team.

Babina Noko returns to the CAF Confederation Cup having finished the season in fourth place. In Ramoreboli, they would have appointed a coach with experience on the continent.

When asked if he was open to returning to South Africa and coaching in the DStv Premiership, Ramoreboli emphasised the importance of timing.

“Yes [I am ready to come back home and coach in the DStv Premiership],” the Cosafa Cup-winning mentor told FARPost. “If you ask me when I’ll say when the time is right. The environment here has made me a better coach. If you ask, ‘Would you want to continue in Botswana?’, yes. For how long, ‘as long as I grow as a coach’.”
