Four teams vie for Sundowns’ Thabang Sibanyoni after contract extension

Mamelodi Sundowns has locked in striker Thabang Sibanyoni for another season, sparking a four-team race for his loan signature.

Sibanyoni’s contract with Sundowns, originally set to expire at the end of June, has been extended until June 2025 after the club triggered a one-year option.

The 28-year-old striker, who spent the past season on loan at Pretoria University, netted an impressive nine goals, contributing to the club’s second-place finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. His good performances have earned him a COSAFA Cup call-up.

Despite his loan experiences at JDR Stars, Sekhukhune United, University of Pretoria, and SuperSport United since his promotion to the Sundowns senior team in the 2019/20 season, Sibanyoni aspires to prove his worth at his parent club.

In a recent interview with FARPost, he expressed his desire for a chance to compete at Sundowns. “In football, sometimes all you need is just a chance. I also need a chance to play at Sundowns and compete with everyone,” he said.
