Salim Magoola extends stay at Richards Bay amid transfer speculation

Ugandan goalkeeper Salim Magoola has signed a new two-year contract with Richards Bay FC, ending speculation about his immediate future.

SuperSport United, Chippa United, and AmaZulu FC were reportedly chasing the Cranes shot-stopper’s signature. Tanzanian giants Simba SC and Azam FC were also reported to be keen on his services.

According to SABC Sport, Magoola has committed to the Natal Rich Boys until 2026. His initial two-year deal would have ended in a few days’ time.

Since he arrived at the KZN outfit in July 2022, Magoola has made a significant impact. This season, he featured in 31 games across all competitions. While it may not have been his best season, his debut term in the DStv Premiership was impressive enough to earn him early consideration for an end-of-season award, a testament to his potential.

The new contract signifies Magoola’s commitment to Richards Bay, but it doesn’t entirely rule out a potential transfer. Any interested clubs must negotiate a deal with Richards Bay to secure his services.

RICHARDS BAY TO KEEP VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI

Meanwhile, the Natal Rich Boyz look set to secure the services of Vusumuzi Vilakazi as their permanent coach. Vilakazi guided them to safety during the just-ended promotion-relegation play-off campaign in style.

Richards Bay ran riot against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC, winning 4-0. The club’s chairman, Jomo Biyela, said they would soon sit down to iron out the coach’s future.

“The reality says, why fix it if it’s not broken?” said Biyela. “We will sit down with him and see how to make it a point that we finalise some of the things we have to discuss.

“But there’s no reason [for him to leave]. That’s another problem we have, following names, not coaches or people who can do work.”

Vilakazi had earlier confirmed that his contract had ended, adding he was waiting to meet with the chairman.
