Magesi FC poised to raid Baroka FC for quartet after promotion

DStv Premiership newbies Magesi FC are bolstering their squad by targeting four players from their Limpopo rivals, Baroka FC.

After failing to secure promotion through the PSL playoffs, Baroka faces a significant exodus of talent, with Magesi eager to capitalise on the situation. Magesi gained automatic promotion to the topflight after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Baroka, on the other hand, finished third and played in the promotional/relegation playoffs, which were won by Richards Bay FC.

The club has already announced that it will not renew the contracts of six players: Tshidiso Patjie, Putco Khoza, Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Boalefa Pule, Phelelani Shozi, and Sandile Nyandu.

WHICH QUARTET IS MAGESI FC TARGETING FROM BAROKA FC?

The quartet in Magesi’s sights includes Sikela Sithole, Ananias Junior Gebhardt, Khomotjo ‘Kaka’ Lekoloane and Kamatuka Joslin.

Gebhardt, a 35-year-old Namibian national team star, is out of contract and reportedly seeking to continue his playing career despite Baroka’s offer of a coaching role in their youth setup. Kamatuka, another Namibian international, is on his way out of the club following the expiry of his contract.

The potential loss of four key players to a direct rival adds another layer of complexity to their task. When asked about the possibility of losing the four players, Baroka chairman Khurishi Mphahlele said he wasn’t aware. “I don’t know about it,” he told FARPost.

The transfer window promises to be a busy one for Magesi as they look to bolster their squad for the demands of the DStv Premiership. They have also been linked to Thabang Sibanyoni, who has another year on his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sibusiso Mabiliso is also reported to be on their radar, while they are also said to be in talks with Lebogang Mabotja, who was recently released by Sekhukhune United.
