Sundowns star Aubrey Modiba opens up about European dreams

Mamelodi Sundowns star Aubrey Modiba has made an honest admission about the prospect of a move abroad.

Modiba recently won his fourth DStv Premiership title with Mamelodi Sundowns.

His five-year deal at the club was due to expire in June 2025. The Bafana Bafana left-back has reportedly signed a two-year extension to his contract and will remain at Chloorkop until 2027.

During the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast this year, Modiba was reportedly asked by some players why he was still based in Africa and not playing in Europe.

The 28-year-old admits that although age might no longer be on his side, he still desires a move to Europe if the right offer presents itself.

WHAT AUBREY MODIBA SAYS ABOUT ANY PROSPECT OF MOVING ABROAD

“Of course, it’s every player’s dream to play abroad. I think age might not be on my side, but you can’t give up,” he told FARPost. “Anything can happen, and if it’s a good offer and good for everyone, I think it’s everybody’s dream to play abroad.”

On reports that there could be clubs after his signature abroad, the former SuperSport United player had this to say: “I don’t know anything about. It’s actually news to me,” he said.

“But no one has said anything to me. My focus is on Sundowns and continuing where we left off. Probably help the team as much as I can, so yeah, I know anything about that.”

Modiba was speaking to FARPost at the Grant Kekana Foundation Golf event in Mookgophong, Limpopo.

“I want to congratulate Grant for such an event. It’s massive for Limpopo Province,” said Modiba.

“You could see how people and his family supported him, and we just offered the extra hand wherever we could. We have been doing this for many years and I am just happy for him. Hopefully, it can grow bigger and better.”
