Tanzanian club joins APR in race for Mahlatsi Makudubela’s signature

Rwandan giants APR FC face competition from a Tanzanian club in their pursuit of Mahlatsi Makudubela, who is reportedly set to leave Young Africans.

The 34-year-old winger has spent a season with the Dar es Salaam-based Young Africans after joining from Marumo Gallants.

Following his impressive displays in the CAF Confederation Cup with Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, where they fell to Yanga in the semi-finals, Timu ya Wananchi snapped up Makudubela on a free transfer.

His contract expires at the end of this season and indications are that the two parties will go their separate ways.

As previously reported by FARPost, the Rwandan side APR have set their sights on the skilful winger, aiming to bolster their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Rwandan link can be traced back to January, when Makudubela’s impressive performances against APR FC in the Mapinduzi Cup, which took place in Zanzibar, made a significant impact.

An insider from APR told this website that the club was hoping to acquire the services of Makudubela as they would be participating in the CAF Champions League.

“His talent is undeniable, especially as we gear up for the CAF Champions League. We’re keeping a close watch on his contract situation at Yanga,” a club insider said.

WHICH TANZANIAN CLUB IS INTERESTED IN MAKUDUBELA’S SERVICES

Now, FARPost understands Azam FC are interested in bringing the former Orlando Pirates man on board.

Azam are one of the big rivals of Yanga and they finished in second position in the league standings.

The two clubs also faced off in the CRDB Bank Federation Cup final where Yanga won 6-5 to lift the trophy.

Makudubela will leave the club with two medals as Yanga also won the Tanzanian Premier League.

Apart from the aforementioned East African clubs, his services are sought after by two DStv Premiership clubs including the newly-promoted Magesi FC.
