Sekhukhune United sign released Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare
Sekhukhune United have bolstered their midfield with the signing of experienced midfielder Thabang Monare, who was recently released by Orlando Pirates at the end of last season.
The 34-year-old holding midfielder joins Sekhukhune as a free transfer after parting ways with Pirates at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Monare struggled to break into the Pirates’ starting line-up last season and managed to play only 11 matches in the league.
In the previous DStv Premiership season, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro preferred Miguel Timm, Thalente Mbatha, and Makhehlene Makhaula in the central midfield position.
‘Dash’ as he’s affectionately known, spent four seasons with the Soweto giants after joining from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2020.
Despite his struggles for game-time at the Soweto giants, Monare was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON held in Ivory Coast.
THABANG MONARE JOINS A LONG LIST OF NEW SEKHUKHUNE UNITED SIGNINGS
Monare is joining players such as Njabulo Ngcobo, Keletso Makgalwa, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Lindokuhle Mtshali, Sikhosonke Langa, and Andy Boyeli as the new signings for Sekhukhune.
With Babina Noko participating in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, Monare will add much-needed experience to the team.
“Thabang Monare is the latest player to be joining Sekhukhune United in this transfer window,” a source told FARPost. “I mean, his experience will be crucial considering that Sekhukhune will be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup and all the domestic tournaments.
“So, at this stage, everything is as good as done. It’s just small details on the contract that are remaining for the deal to happen.”
Meanwhile, the Limpopo-based side will also part ways with Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Micheal Sarpong, Edwin Gymah, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Collins Makgaka, Lebogang Mabotja, Tashreeq Morris as part of their squad revamp for the upcoming season.
