Clinton Larsen reveals Magesi’s recruitment strategy ahead of new season
Following Magesi FC’s impressive promotion to the DStv Premiership last season, coach Clinton Larsen has revealed the club’s recruitment strategy.
The PSL transfer window officially opens on Monday, 1 July, as teams will start bolstering their squads for next season.
The Polokwane-based side had a great campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They won the league with two games to spare, with an eight-point gap at the top.
Magesi, the newly-promoted side, is expected to be one of the busiest teams in the market. Larsen stated that they need at least a player in each position, saying, “We need goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, strikers and wingers.”
Previously, FARPost reported that Magesi are linked with several players; however, no official announcements have been made.
Some of the players linked to the club include Lebogang Mobotja of Sekhukhune United, Cape Town Spurs’ Katlego Maphathe, and Baroka FC quartet Sikela Sithole, Ananias Junior Gebhardt, Khomotjo ‘Kaka’ Lekoloane, and Kamatuka Joslin.

The 53-year-old coach says their mandate is to look for senior players that will fit in the system. He stated that he will personally study each player that is their potential signing on and off the pitch.
The aim is to build a team with hard workers who will help the team grow and not players who will start being disrespectful. “We have to make sure that the type of players we recruit, senior players, fit a certain profile,” Larsen told FARPost.
“I’m not the type of coach who likes to bring problematic players into my camp. If you’re not disciplined it’s going to be hard to fit into my team.
“We’re very wary of who we bring to Magesi. I’ll do my homework on every player that is a potential signing. I want to make sure players are coming with the right intentions, to work hard and take Magesi to the next level.
“We’ll be very selective on who we bring on board; it’s not about names, but performances. A lot of teams will look for big names to get results, I will look for big performances to get results. Whoever signs for Magesi will have to put up big performances.”
