‘For now, it’s a dream until I taste it’: Siyabonga Ngezana

FCSB star Siyabonga Ngezana has spoken out about one thing that remains a dream until it actually happens in reality.

Ngezana had a great debut season in the Romanian Superliga. The centre-back played a huge role as his side clinched the title. The last time FCSB were crowned league champions was nine seasons ago, in 2015/16 season.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star made 30 league appearances including the Superliga Championship group and grabbed one assist. In addition, his consistent displays in the field of play helped the Romanian giants to keep 14 clean sheets.

For his great displays, the 25-year-old attracted teams like Ligue 1 side Lorient and other teams in Turkey. However, the deal didn’t go through. He was named in the Superliga Team of the Season and received a Bafana Bafana call-up for the first time since 2018.

After winning the Superliga Championship playoffs, FCSB advanced to the qualifiers of the UEFA Champions League. To qualify for the group stages of the competition, they have to pass four stages of the qualifying rounds.

The draw for the 2024/25 Champions League first qualifying round draw will be held on Tuesday, 18 June at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

Speaking to MSW recently, Ngezana said playing in the Champions League remains a dream as there is still a long way for them to reach that stage.

“For now it’s a dream until I taste it,” said Ngezana. “Winning the league in Europe and playing group stages in the Champions League for playoffs, it’s something that has not registered to me.

“This thing is each and everyone’s dream to play in the Champions League, that’s a big stage. You meet all these players that I used to play with on Play Station [FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer].”
