Is Tebogo Motlanthe back at SAFA? Danny Jordaan answers
SAFA president Danny Jordaan has clarified the role of former CEO Tebogo Motlanthe at the association’s events. Motlanthe resigned from the organisation in May last year and was replaced by Lydia Monyepao.
There have been reports that the association discussed with him about a possible return. But the association denied these reports.
Motlanthe, a lawyer by profession, was heavily involved during the recently concluded ABC Motsepe League national playoffs in Upington. This has fuelled speculation that the football administrator could be on his way back to SAFA.
WHAT DANNY JORDAAN SAYS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF FORMER CEO TEBOGO MOTLANTHE
“He is a legal advisor. He was helping here [ABC Motsepe League national playoffs] with the tournament,” Jordaan clarified to FARPost.
“We are happy to have him. He has made a great contribution to SAFA and he will continue to contribute and we are very happy with him.”
On whether Motlanthe is likely to rejoin SAFA permanently, this is what Jordaan had to say. “Well, we will talk to him about that in the future.”
SAFA BOSS IMPRESSED BY NEWLY PROMOTED MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS
Meanwhile, Jordaan has congratulated newly promoted teams Highbury FC and Kruger United. The two teams confirmed their Motsepe Foundation Championship status during the playoffs in Upington.
“It was an amazing tournament and it confirmed that football is not dominated by one region anymore. There is equal strength across our country.
“We now have professional teams in Mpumalanga and Port Elizabeth. Now this is what we wanted ABC Motsepe League to do because football was not accessible to everybody in the country.
“The ABC Motsepe League has transformed professional football. There is a professional football team in every single province of our country now. So we are very happy and the quality of the play also impressed us.”
