Cleared of age fraud, Xolani Sithole set to dazzle in the DStv Premiership
After being cleared of age fraud, Pretoria Callies‘ nippy winger Xolani Sithole looks poised to dazzle in the DStv Premiership.
La Masia accused Sithole of falsifying his birthdate from 1997 to 2001, which allowed him to compete as an Under-23 player last season.
However, SAFA’s arbitrator cleared Sithole of the charges in November 2023, citing confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs that a new identity number had been issued to him based on his legitimate birthdate.
Undeterred by the controversy, Sithole is ready to turn a new leaf with Chippa United. The 22-year-old has left all the drama in the past and is all set to join the team’s preseason in Gqeberha this week as they gear up for the next season.
The talented winger contributed four goals as AmaRoma scurried for survival in the second-tier league. The Pretoria side finished the Motsepe Foundation Championship season in 14th place.
XOLANI SITHOLE SET FOR REUNION IN THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP
The left-footed attacker, known to Chippa United co-coach Kwanele Kopo from their previous collaboration, is on the verge of reuniting with him. Ongoing negotiations between the two clubs hint at an imminent agreement. This sets the stage for a reunion that could unleash the player’s full potential. Sithole could also bring a new dynamic to the team with his pace and goal threat.
The Chippa Mpengesi-owned outfit has reportedly offered the talented winger a long-term deal. The Eastern Cape outfit announced a significant roster change last week. They released 16 players whose contracts expire at the end of the month.
Among those departing are notable figures such as former Orlando Pirates winger Luvuyo Memela. Sekhukhune United have already snapped up Namibian international goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua. Former Royal AM midfielder Siphelele Luthuli and former SuperSport United full-back Siyabonga Nhlapo were also let go.
Meanwhile, Goodman Mosele and Gadinkame Modise left the club. After completing their loan stints, both players will return to their parent clubs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, respectively.
