Polokwane City cut ties with trio, latest on Appollis & Matuludi

Polokwane City FC have initiated a squad reshuffle for the upcoming 2024/25 PSL season, releasing three players from their roster.

Given Mashikinya, Lucky Baloyi, and Obed Thuto were notably absent as the team commenced their pre-season training, signalling their departure from the club. Reliable sources have confirmed that the club has let all three players go.

Mashikinya, a midfielder who joined Polokwane City on a one-year contract after leaving Sekhukhune United, made a significant contribution last season, starting in 28 matches and scoring two goals.

Lucky Baloyi and Obed Thuto, on the other hand, had limited game time during the previous season. Baloyi made two starts and three substitute appearances, while Thuto’s sole start came in the Nedbank Cup.

The club’s decision to part ways with these players suggests a strategic move to reshape their squad for the upcoming season.

As Polokwane City continues their pre-season preparations, fans can expect further developments in the team’s roster as they aim to strengthen their lineup for a competitive 2024/25 campaign.

POLOKWANE CITY FC’S DUO BEING MONITORED BY TOP TEAMS

A number of teams are reportedly monitoring Rise n Shine’s sought-after players, Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi.

Orlando Pirates, Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC have reportedly expressed a strong desire to secure the services of Matuludi, the talented fullback who recently earned a spot in the COSAFA Cup squad.

Notably, Stellenbosch FC has already had an offer for Matuludi rejected by the Limpopo club.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs, who finished the previous season in 10th place, are said to be keen on signing Bafana Bafana winger Appollis. Chiefs’ incoming coach, Nasreddine Nabi, is believed to be a major factor behind the club’s interest in the winger.

However, Polokwane City’s coach, Phuti Mohafe, has previously spoken highly of Appollis, referring to him as a “national asset” and acknowledging the player’s ambition to pursue opportunities abroad.

Mohafe has also emphasised the club’s reluctance to sell either Appollis or Matuludi to domestic rivals, stating a preference for them to secure moves to overseas clubs.
