Darrel Matsheke eyes Magesi FC move

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch midfielder Darrel Matsheke is eyeing a move to newly promoted DStv Premiership side Magesi FC.

Matsheke joined Stellenbosch FC on a free transfer in October last year after Amakhosi parted ways with Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2022/23 season. He went to Stellies to replace Mthethwa, who joined Amakhosi.

Before joining Stellies, the 25-year-old spent the previous two seasons on loan at Uthongathi FC and Moroka Swallows FC. He made 32 appearances across the Motsepe Foundation Championship and DStv Premiership and boasts the experience of having played in the CAF Champions League during his time at Naturena.

Stellies decided to part ways with him just five months after he joined them. He was released due to disciplinary issues after playing 12 games for the club.

His agent, Gerald Baloyi, has confirmed on FARPost that the talented midfielder could end up at Magesi FC as talks with the club are at an advanced stage.

“About Matsheke, there’s something happening. We are talking with Magesi FC. Anytime soon, they will give him a contract,” Baloyi said.

WHAT DARREL MATSHEKE COULD BRING TO MAGESI FC

Magesi FC won the Motsepe Foundation Championship 2023/24 season under coach Clinton Larson. The Limpopo side was promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2021/22 season. They played two seasons in the second tier before gaining promotion.

They won the Championship with 57 points after winning 16 games, drawing nine, and losing only five in the league.

Matsheke, a gritty defensive midfielder, could bring a lot of experience to the newcomers’ engine room. Last season, he won the Carling Knockout Cup with Stellies, beating TS Galaxy FC in the final. The steely midfielder scored the winning penalty in that game.

This team has not yet announced the new signings as we are heading to the 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, they have experienced players like Edmore Chirambadare, Rhulani Manzini, Deolin Mekoa, and Elis Chipezeze, who made their name at Baroka FC.
