Cape Town City FC have bolstered their midfield options with the signing of experienced midfielder Fortune Makaringe ahead of the new PSL season.
The highly-rated midfielder Makaringe joins CT City as a free agent after recently parting ways with Orlando Pirates.
This acquisition of Makaringe signifies CT City’s continued focus on strengthening their midfield for the upcoming season.
It marks their fourth move in this area, following the recent signings of Namibian international Prins Tjiueza, experienced midfielder Haashim Domingo, and young prospect Kayden Francis.
However, the midfield revamp isn’t the only area the Citizens are addressing. While they continue to bring in new talent, the Cape club has also seen a player exodus. The departures include Brice Ambina, Thabiso Kutumela, Jo Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Bongani Mpandle, and Khanya Leshabela.
Fortune Makaringe Joins CT City ON A THREE-YEAR DEAL
CT City secured Makaringe’s services on a three-year deal. The 31-year-old midfielder joins the Citizens on a free transfer after Pirates opted not to renew his contract.
He enjoyed a successful four-year stint at Pirates, having joined the club in July 2019 from Maritzburg United. The midfield maestro quickly established himself as a key player, helping the Soweto giants win three MTN8 and two Nedbank Cup titles. Makaringe made 147 appearances in Pirates colours, scoring 10 goals and contributing 9 assists.
With his experience, Makaringe looks to be a valuable asset for CT City, adding depth and creativity to the club’s midfield.
“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Fortune Makaringe,” reads the club statement. “The South African international signs a 3-year deal to bolster the midfield options ahead of the new season.”
This signing also marks a reunion for Makaringe, as he will now be linking up again with coach Eric Tinkler at CT City. The pair previously worked together at Maritzburg.
