Former SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe joins PSL side

Former SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe has been appointed as the new CEO of the Motsepe Foundation Championship newbies Kruger United.

Kruger recently secured their promotion to the SA second tier after finishing as one of the finalists at the just-ended ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs held in Upington, Northern Cape.

The Bushbuckridge-based outfit were the runner-up of the national playoffs following their 2-0 loss to Eastern Cape’s Highbury FC coached by Kabelo Sibiya.

This was a massive achievement for the Mpumalanga side as the club was formed about 10 months ago, with the dreams of young footballers in their region coming alive again.

The club’s hierarchy made it clear that they are not coming to the Motsepe Foundation Championship just to add numbers but to compete and cruise their way into the DStv Premiership with God’s grace.

TEBOGO MOTLANTHE’S POSSIBILITY TO RETURN TO SAFA

A few days ago, this publication clarified the rumours that have been making rounds that Motlanthe might return to SAFA. The rumours were fueled by his presence at the national playoffs.

Motlanthe resigned as the SAFA CEO in May 2023. He was later replaced by Lydia Monyepao.

However, SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan cleared the air, citing that Motlanthe was there as the Association’s “legal advisor”.

“He is a legal advisor. He was helping here [ABC Motsepe League national playoffs] with the tournament. We are happy to have him,” Jordaan told FARPost in Upington.

“He has made a great contribution to SAFA. And he will continue to contribute and we are very happy with him”

As the 2024/25 season is fast approaching, Kruger will be looking to strengthen their squad and search for a new coach. Vusi Mkhatshwa announced that he will be retiring from coaching after guiding the side to the PSL.

The club is set to announce the venue they will use as their home ground in due course.
