Myeni, Mahamutsa and Mokoena face uncertain futures in Botswana
South African footballers Sifiso Myeni, Rooi Mahamutsa and Lucky Mokoena are facing uncertain futures in Botswana with VTM FC.
The trio has been key for the club displaying consistent performances each time they are on the field of play.
All the three players are now veterans who are very experienced in the game and played some of their best football in the DStv Premiership. Myeni and Mahamutsa made their names when they were playing for Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, whilst Mokoena played for now-defunct Free State Stars.
Mokoena and Mahamutsa joined the club in the middle of the 2023/24 season. Mokoena parted ways with Morena Ramoreboli’s Jwaneng Galaxy, whilst Mahamutsa came from SA second-tier side TS Sporting. On the other hand, Myeni made his move to Botswana Premier League ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
In the just-ended season, the trio helped the team to finish sixth on the log standings. VTM managed to collect 37 points after registering 10 victories, and seven draws and suffered 13 defeats.
VTM WILL NO LONGER BE PARTICIPATING IN THE BOTSWANA PREMIER LEAGUE
FARPost has established that the club will not be participating in the Botswana top flight next season.
VTM is still a new club in the Botswana Premier League after gaining promotion in the 2022/23 season via playoffs. In that campaign, they finished second in the Botswana second-tier league.
VTM FC’s president, Vincent Mafuta, confirmed that the team would not be participating in the Premier League this coming season.
He added that VTM Football Club would no longer run as a professional team. However, he has yet to sell their premier league status. He is willing to engage if anyone comes up for negotiations.
