The 3 players Kagisho Dikgacoi thinks can excel in England
Former Bafana Bafana and Fulham midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi has singled out three SA players he thinks can excel in England.
The retired footballer spent five years [between 2009 and 2014] in Europe, where he turned out for teams such as Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Cardiff City.
The former Golden Arrows midfielder insists that Mzansi has a number of talented and quality players who can compete in the English Premier League.
However, the 39-year-old limited his list to three players who, given their stellar displays, he believes will fly the SA flag high in England.
WHO ARE THE THREE PLAYERS KAGISHO DIKGACOI PICKED UP?
Dikgacoi singled out Mamelodi Sundowns’ midfield maestro Teboho Mokoena and defensive rock Grant Kekana for their brilliance.
Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena has become a national sensation. His dazzling displays for both Bafana Bafana and Masandawana have ignited a firestorm of interest from clubs abroad.
Meanwhile, Dikgacoi went on to mention Orlando Pirates teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng, who once had trials at English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in October 2023.
“I think Teboho Mokoena is doing well for Sundowns and also for the national team. He has shown what he is capable of lately. His performances at the AFCON with Bafana and with Sundowns in the CAF inter-club competitions speaks volumes,” Dikgacoi told FARPost.
“The other one would be the Sundowns defender Grant Kekana. He has got the physic, and he is strong. I think he will also do well in Europe. At times, he reminds me of Manuel Akanji. He is calm, strong and focused.”
KAGISHO DIKGACOI ON RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG
Dikgacoi further stated that ‘Rele’ has what it takes to shine in England only if he continues working hard and improves some aspects of his game.
“The last player I can think of that could play in Europe could be Relebohile Mofokeng. It’s the way Mofokeng has been performing. There is hype, obviously, about him going to play overseas and stuff. But I think if he can keep working hard and remain grounded, I think in the near future is one player who can perform there at that level,” he added.
“He got those attributes of Pedri. It’s just a matter of time that I think he can do well depending on the fact that he keeps improving on some aspects of his game.”
