AmaTuks extend Edward Maova’s stay amid Chiefs & SuperSport links
AmaTuks have extended the stay of goalkeeper Edward Maova amid reported interest from Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United.
Maova has been the regular feature for the Tshwane-based side since joining the club at the beginning of the season from Pretoria Callies.
As previously reported, Matsatsantsa have been keen on signing the Namibian goalkeeper, especially since Ricardo Goss is returning to his parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns, for the upcoming season.
With the future of Washington Arubi also uncertain, the Swanky Boys are desperate to bolster their goalkeeping department.
AmaTuks exercised their option to extend Mphaklane Maova’s contract, which was due to expire in June, for another year. This means the goalkeeper will remain with the club until June 2025, as confirmed by his representative, Charles Domingos.
A club interested in signing Maova would have to stump up an amount of money demanded by the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR EDWARD MAOVA?
“Nothing has come from SuperSport, he’s still at Tuks,” said Domingos when contacted by FARPost.
“So, Tuks exercised the option, they did that three months ago already. So, he has [another year].
“They [whoever is interested] must pay, and there’s no buy-out clause. So, Tuks must decide, he’s a Tuks player.
“I saw something about Chiefs, people have been calling me but it’s not true.”
This is Maova’s second stint with the University of Pretoria having played for the side between 2018 and 2020.
He has also turned out for TS Sporting, the now-defunct Royal Eagles, Civics FC [Namibia] and Rundu Chiefs [Namibia].
Maova was part of the Namibia squad that went to the 2023 AFCON held in Ivory Coast in January-February. He served as an understudy to Lloyd Kazapua.
