Chiefs show Cavin Johnson the exit door

Kaizer Chiefs have shown coach Cavin Johnson the exit door as they continue overhauling the entire technical team. The appointment of Tunisian head coach Nasresddine Nabi is imminent at Naturena.

This comes after Amakhosi finished their ninth PSL season without any silverware under the tutelage of Johnson.

“We wish to thank Mr Johnson for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wish him well in the future,” reads the club’s statement.

Johnson took over the coaching reins at Chiefs on an interim basis in October 2023 after Molefi Ntseki was fired by the club following a string of poor results.

With Johnson at the helm, results did not improve much, and the Soweto giants ended the 2023/24 campaign without a trophy.

The last time Chiefs won a trophy was back in 2015. This was when they lifted the league title under the guidance of coach Stuart Baxter.

Johnson, 65, has been in charge of 22 games across all competitions. In those 22 matches, he won six games, drew eight and lost eight in the process.

NASREDDINE NABI TO JOIN KAIZER CHIEFS IN A FEW DAYS

Nabi, who is set to be Amakhosi’s new mentor is set to join the club in a few coming days. This will be after the Throne Cup final. The much-awaited final is set to take place at the Adrar Stadium on Monday evening, 1 July 2024.

Nabi will be in charge of AS FAR Rabat as they face ex-Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer’s Raja Casablanca.

The Tunisian football manager will be expected to take the Glamour Boys to greater heights after so many seasons of disappointments.

Fernando Da Cruz, who will serve as assistant coach to Nabi and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi have already arrived in Mzansi. The duo have hit the ground running as the new season is fast approaching.
