Mamelodi Sundowns confirm 4 departures

The four players are striker Thabiso Kutumela, defender Brian Onyango, midfielders Bongani Zungu and Gaston Sirino.

“Thank you to our departing players, the Yellow Nation thanks you for your effort and hard work over the years,” said the club in a statement.

Zungu was the first player to announce his departure from the Chloorkop-based outfit two weeks ago.

The experienced midfielder, Zungu, returned to Sundowns in the 2022/23 season as a free agent from French side Amiens SC.

In the just-ended DStv Premiership campaign, Zungu played 30 games across all competitions and contributed three assists.

Kutumela, who was on loan at Cape Town City FC last season, also left the club. At the Citizens, he managed to play 28 games in all competitions, scoring three goals and weighing in with one assist.

He joined Bafana Ba Style in July 2016 from Maritzburg United, who are now competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The 30-year-old footballer will be looking for greener pastures elsewhere, as he will be hoping to continue to get more game time and showcase his God-given talent.

Onyango is another player who has cut ties with the Brazilians ahead of the upcoming term. The Kenyan defender signed for Sundowns in October 2020 as a free agent.

Last season, Onyango struggled for game time as he only featured in nine games for the Brazilians, something that might have contributed to his departure from the club.

Meanwhile, Masandawana let go of their midfield maestro Gaston Sirino, a decision that has left many football fanatics surprised.

Sirino joined Masandawana back in January 2018. Since joining the Tshwane giants, the Uruguayan midfielder played 202 games across all competitions for Rulani Mokwena’s side.

In those 202 matches, he managed to score 41 goals and contributed 44 assists.

At the moment, Sundowns are yet to confirm any recruits to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
